Discover Gdansk by traditional galar boat

Galar is a type of old polish river boat. It was used for one-time transport of goods (including salt, lime, zinc, soap, grain) downstream mainly from Upper Vistula. It could carry 25 tons of goods. Today we will use galar boats for slightly different purposes.

Gdansk is quite uniquely located at the crossroads of sea and river routes, waterways of the Vistula river at the Baltic estuary, as well as the Radunia and Motlawa rivers. Water was the important element of the city’s life. It is important today to show Gdansk through its relation to water.

Do I need kayaking experience?

No. Most of our guests are first-time kayakers. The guide gives a short introduction and stays with you the entire time.

What happens if it rains?

Rain is not a problem — you’ll get spray skirts and waterproof gear. In case of storms or unsafe weather, we reschedule or refund.

Can I take my phone or camera?

Yes, but remember to secure it from loosing and getting wet.

Where do we start?

All tours start near the historic center of Gdańsk. Premium guests are picked up directly from their hotel.

What should I wear?

Anything will do. Some parts of your clothes may get a bit wet so something that dryes quickly or/and another set of spare clothes is recommended.

Can children join?

Yes! Children aged 6+ can join if accompanied by an adult in the same kayak.

Dragon boat adventure is also a unique occasion to experience the thrill and excitement of rowing through the heart of Gdansk. From an exclusive point of view you can admire the historic Gdansk sights along the Motlawa Canal. Before hitting the water there is a safety briefing and a series of warm up and coordination exercises on land to prepare everyone for the challenge. 

The Dragon Boat is a traditional Chinese watercraft. It dates back to ancient times and is characterized by a colorful dragon head positioned at the bow. The crew of a standard dragon boat is typically about 20 paddlers in pairs facing toward the bow of the boat, drummer or caller at the bow facing toward the paddlers, and steerer standing at the rear of the boat. However the minimum group size is 10 people. For larger groups  we provide two boats and can organize a head to head race with your colleagues.
